Here's why planning is bullshit

Recently I sat on my kitchen table and drank my coffee. I couldn’t help but ask myself, how I actually got to here.
It felt like it was yesterday, I went to college and discussed my future plans about studies and how, in that time, I seemed so far away, from the comfortable life I’ve always known.
When I finished college, I went on the ship towards “the real world” with a backpack, that didn’t contain any organized plan at all. Or.. If the “real world” contains sleepless and drunken nights, I would be more than prepared.
The funny thing about life is, that it always prepares us for something.
Kinder garden prepares us for preschool, preschool prepares us for high school, high school prepares us for university, which prepares us for the “real world”. We have been put on this path right from the beginning and got told to follow exactly this pathway, to end up where we need to be – the place that’s right for us.
But what society doesn’t understand is, that we, as human beings, isn’t designed to stick to only one path. Humans are free individuals, always changing and always in movement. Our feelings are ever changing and always in constant flow – just like our thoughts, beliefs, interests and our relationships with others.
When we are being told to pick out a major and a future career, we are facing the biggest challenge in our lives. We have spent our whole life to prepare us for this moment. The decided fate, on what we should be spending the rest of our lives on.
When I faced the big decision of choosing my passion and future career, I was stuck. I had so many interests, how was it possible to just choose one? So, like the overanalyzing girl I am, I was considering for a long time. I was planning and I was thinking and I was planning some more.
But one day, when I finally stopped planning and thinking, everything made sense for me. When I finally let myself be patient and began to relax – not being so busy and just live - it was in that moment, I found my true purpose.
It showed that all that time and energy I was spending to plan my future, wasn’t even necessary. I just knew, when it got to me and the most beautiful thing was, it got to me, when I was doing absolutely nothing.
So this is where the fantastic idea, of having a plan, didn’t live up to its expectations.
We are living our lives through preparation. We aren’t seeing it, while we are planning, but we are missing out of all the important things in our lives. All while we’ve been planning and preparing ourselves, we have been missing all the opportunities to relax and let the plan find us.
No one needs a plan or a settled path, to be where we need to be. Because the place we are meant to be, is where we already are.
Humans are forever growing – we are in constant improvement to be the best version of ourselves. Moreover, we humans are so privileged, that we have several purposes in this life – not only one.
So go and take those chances! Venture on different paths and explore those paths, which might feel impossible or unrealistic. Travel the world, start a business, do things that pulls you forward.
I am strongly convinced, there’s a meaning behind everything and if you have an intuitive feeling to do something, there’s a meaning with that specific feeling.
When you are met with a overflowing confusion and can’t make a decision - or if you are anxious about not having a plan; take a deep breath and remember life is a journey – not a destination. There’s no “right” path in life. The only thing you need to do, is to keep a open mind and follow your heart. If you're following your heart, you are always heading in the right direction.
You never know, what could come to you, when you just enjoy the moment and which instinct that shows up, that will lead you to your next big adventure.
Put on a brave face, go into this world with a courageous heart and let the magic begin!
